The Caribbean: An Ideal Destination For Family Vacations

The Caribbean is an ideal destination for families considering a vacation, as it offers something for all family members to enjoy. There are numerous beaches, interesting ancient ruins, and lots of natural attractions to explore. Many of the resorts offer special activities just for children, giving the adults in the family time to enjoy other activities. There are now a great many cruise lines operating in the Caribbean, and there are family attractions to be found in all the major ports, including Georgetown (Grand Cayman), Ohco Rios and Montego Bay (Jamaica), Belize City (Belize), Cozumel and Costa Maya (Mexico) and Bay Island (Roatan).

The Caribbean has changed a lot over the past few decades, and is no longer a retreat only available to the rich and famous.  Now everyone from honeymooners to families with children are able to reach the Caribbean through low cost airfares, and the islands have adapted to cater to their wider range of clientèle.  The Caribbean now offers something for all interests and budgets.

The changing face of the Caribbean has encouraged many of the couples who had their honeymoons there to return with their children and enjoy another holiday, this time at a different resort that caters to the whole families.  The difference in resorts is marked – where the adult focused resorts offer tropical cocktails and cabaret, the family resorts offer children's shows and sand-castle competitions.  Next time you are considering a family holiday, don't forget the Caribbean – even if you have visited before, there are now so many more options available, for the entire family.

Are some islands better than others for family fun? I have heard many stories from my male friends about their antics in the caribbean, and it didn't sound too family friendly to me.

I realise that different resorts aim for different markets, but I would love to read reviews of the different resorts to have some idea of what to expect at each one.
