Finding Discount Airfares to Panama

Until recently, travel to Central America from the US was quite expensive, however, routes into Panama have improved over the past few years, and there are now lots of options for discount airfares to and from Panama.  How cheaply you can fly depends greatly on the level of comfort you expect, and the kind of aircraft you are willing to use.

Go As Cargo

Many of you may be surprised to learn that Panama may have more airfields available for light cargo planes than any single state in America.  Practically every cocoa or marijuana field has its own private landing strip providing the capability to load fairly substantial amounts of cargo.  In such cases, discount travel airfare to Panama might be necessary for the cargo owner. Thus, if you are not a very qualified liar, you might expect to spend some time in jail in the arrival city in the US.  In such cases the discount travel airfare from Panama may in fact be more expensive than a regularly scheduled flight!

You can get discount airfares to Panama without needing to do something so extreme. The simplest option is to contact the pilot of a small passenger plane which flies regularly to Central America.  Many of these pilots prefer to avoid attention, and when you contact them they may offer you a very, very discounted fare just so that they can stay below the radar, for fear that you may otherwise tell the DEA about their regular flights.  This  option is not always ideal, however, as you may not get a flight to your preferred city, and these pilots are not exactly reputable, or reliable ones, so you cannot rely on the same service as you would expect from a major airline.

Try Not To Travel Alone

If possible, try to travel with a group of friends, or at least with one other traveling companion.  Remember that there is safety in numbers, and it is best to try not to be out alone.  If you fly with a friend you will have someone to share the experience with, and you are less likely to run into trouble during your flight.  Do some research before you go, and try to pick out a carrier and airfield that has at least some record.  The more planning you do, the more likely your trip will go well.
