Who Else Wants To Vacation Close To Home?

When you are trying to find the best vacation spot, sometimes you get caught up in the faraway locations, and miss out on things that are literally in your back yard.  There are lots of great places that could be very close to your home, and it is easy to overlook them when trying to find somewhere new and exciting to go.

The world is getting smaller – people are accustomed to flying or driving hundreds of miles to get to places they want to see, and yet the areas they live could be tourist hot spots for others.  How many people who live in Paris or Florida have never been to the Disneyland resorts in those areas?  How many people living in the Midwest decide to travel miles to take a country holiday, when they have some lovely peaceful spots on their doorstep?

Some claim they need to get away from home and enjoy the drive. For many, staying in a motel only an hour or so from home is not their idea of a vacation. However, by getting a room close to some of the best vacation spots can ease the financial burden on the trip and still allow them to feel as though they are away from home.

No More Tiring Travel

Why travel for 12 or more hours when you will end up tired and cranky for the first day of your vacation, and spend the final few days dreading the return journey?  If you are able to vacation closer to home, then you have more time to enjoy the trip, and will probably spend less money on travel too, leaving you with more for having fun.

Next time you are in town, visit the local tourist information center – there could be parks, museums, restaurants and beaches nearby that you simply hadn't noticed.  There could be events going on in a nearby town that interest you, but you've never gotten round to trying out.

Your ideal vacation spot could be just a short drive from home – you don't need to go far to 'get away' – check out a map of your home state, and look at the things that tourists do when they come to your area – you may get a surprise at how exciting home can be.

True, in an attempt to find a good vacation spot, we tend to ignore the spots that are closeby and quiet frequently end up visiting places that are far off. A nearby destination will give more opportunity to enjoy if looked for.

Vacations close to home can be fun, but sometimes you do need to go somewhere really different to relax. One of my mates loves traveling to nearby towns, staying in B&Bs and doing pub crawls. He manages to get away for a break like that every few weeks.

Personally I prefer to save up and take longer breaks in places a little more exotic. Still, sometimes it is nice to see the local scenery, and its amazing what museums round here have to offer.
