Who Else Wants Pet Friendly Family Vacation Ideas
Planning Pet Friendly Vacations
Some people think that pet friendly vacations are hard to come by, but this is not necessarily the case. It all has to do with how much money you want to spend, as well as the kind of vacation that you are looking for. However, it should be noted that many pet friendly vacations that involve some form of sightseeing usually means that the pet is restricted to a hotel room while you do so.
If you crave a little more adventure, then consider a family camping trip . This lets you take larger dogs with you – something that some pet friendly hotels do not allow, and it means that while you are out exploring, your pet came come with you. The dog can also offer you a little more security, alerting you of intruders to your camp at night, for example.
Before you go on such a holiday, you should consider a few things about your pet. How does he get on with strangers, for example? It is a bad idea to take an aggressive pet out with you on holiday – the last thing you want is to have to worry about your pet biting a fellow traveler.
If your dog is not used to being outside, then you may need to spend some time getting it used to the great outdoors before you go – take it for a few walks around local parks, etc, so that it does not feel distressed and miss being indoors while you are on holiday.
If your dog is already used to the outdoors, you have the advantage. Not only is the dog easily acclimated to new surroundings, but you know how to protect the dog against fleas and ticks. It should be noted that before you get your dog ready for the pet friendly vacation, you should make sure the dog has tick protection, as ticks are prevalent in wooded areas.
If a pet friendly camping vacation sounds like your kind of thing, then call around some camp grounds or check out their web sites. If you find one that you are interested in that allows pets, then look for some reviews online, and if it sounds interesting, then start packing and get ready for a family adventure!

I think pet friendly vacations are a great idea, especially for families - kids must hate having to leave their pets behind even more than adults do.
I am curious about other pets though - can you take a bird, or small caged animal with you as easily as you can take a dog, or are the pet friendly places limited in what they accomodate - for allergy reasons, for example?
