Travel Tips For Holidays in Germany

Germany has become a very popular holiday destination in the past few years – in fact, in the first half of 2006, more than 2.2 million Americans went to Germany for a vacation.

Germany has many unique customs and traditions that differentiate it from other countries in Europe.  You will likely enjoy your holiday to Germany more if you are aware of a few of them.

Travel Tips To Know Before You Go

One of the many Germany travel tips that many vacationers fail to follow through on is acquiring basic knowledge of Germany before they leave.  You should know the regulations concerning your visa and passport, as well as what vaccinations you will need before traveling to Germany.  (Usually, no vaccinations are required).

Remember that Germany uses the metric system for measurements, and that they are now using Euros as their currency.

German Law

Germans have quite strict laws regarding items related to World War II, Nazis, and the promotion of racism or fascism.  You are not allowed to bring such items in to or out of the country.

Germany has unusual driving laws – certain sections of their Autobahn / motorway have no speed limits.  They have much lower legal blood-alcohol limits than many other countries, and have certain driver courtesy laws that are intended to reduce the likelihood of accidents.

It is a good idea to look into these laws before you hit the road, and to find out how to contact the local law enforcement organizations and emergency services.

Enjoy Germany

Germany is an exciting holiday destination, and you can have a lot of fun if you do a little research first – plan your holiday before you leave, and you can have fun, stay safe, and avoid any embarrassing cultural mistakes.

I love Germany - I've been there a few times now, and there's always something to see / do. People are really friendly, and most of the time the weather is nice. Can you ask for better?

I tend to stay in budget hotels like the Ibis - they're usually nice enough, the staff are fluent in English (helpful, since my German is embarrasingly bad), and they tend to be located nice and close to city centers.
