Best Family Ski Vacations: Plan, Prepare, Enjoy!
Pick A Quiet Time of Year
Ski resorts can be very crowded during peak times, and there is nothing worse than spending most of your day queuing for the ski lift, or dodging fellow skiers on the slopes. If possible, book your trip for a quiet time of year, or, if you have to visit during peak time, try to bring your own equipment and make reservations at restaurants and ski classes if the resort allows it.
To avoid the hassle of crowds and have the best family ski vacation you have ever experienced, plan your trip for non peak weeks or weekends. The slowest times for ski resorts tend to fall during the beginning or end of the season. As an additional benefit, you will save a lot of money when you book for these times. You can pocket that money or treat your family to lessons or a special restaurant that you might not otherwise be able to afford.
Plan For the Unexpected
Nobody wants things to go wrong, but if you have contingency plans then you will be less frustrated if things don't go the way you wanted. Pack some board games or DVDs so that if you get snowed in, or even injured on the slopes, you have something to do, and pack some snacks just in case you feel hungry while out on the slopes.
Be Flexible
A ski vacation is exactly that, a vacation – if your child decides that they don't enjoy skiing, don't make them go out on the slopes every day – most resorts have other activities that you can try out instead, so let them see if they enjoy those instead.
If people are tired, or want to do something different, then go ahead – a little spontaneity will keep people cheerful and spirits high during the holiday, and make it the best family ski holiday ever.
