Hawaii Flowers: Radiant Colors For Any Occasion
During the annual celebration for King Kamehamea, the island group’s first monarch in 1810 used floats decorated in native Hawaii flowers to mark the empire that brought all of the islands under one rule. Since then, many commercial companies provide a float for their employees to show their gratitude to the former monarch. They work to bring peace and cooperation to the islands’ dwellers as well as with other countries.
There are many different types of colorful flowers native to the island including heliconia and ginger. Costus offer additional colors in the floral rainbow of Hawaii flowers and the calathea species contains many subdued colorings. There is also a wide variety of foliage that call Hawaii home and some of the miscellaneous species of Hawaii flowers include the bird of paradise and beautiful varieties of venusta Siam and Stromanthes.
Hawaii Flowers Display Unique Colors And Shapes
Heliconia species are have a unique look. They are often seen as slender stems with slender blossoms. They usually take on a variety of red hues, along with a mixture of other brilliant colors. The blossoms of these Hawaii flowers are typically helix in growth, hence the name heliconia. The foliage for this species varies from individual spike-like greenery to a fern leaf to a broader type of greenery.
The ginger species typically present a more bulbous bloom, although some, like the shell ginger, may appear as if the bulb has been sliced into thinner leaves. Coloring for these Hawaii flowers will also vary but red is one of the predominant hues. The costus species also offers rounded head blossoms, but are usually smaller than the containing greenery with the plant.
The calathea is intriguing. It is more like spiked plants with long slender blossoms. This Hawaii flower is earth tone and some, especially the calathea shakers resemble wheat spikes. The venusta species of Hawaii flowers are more rounded with two or more colors and can be spotted by their similarity to button roses, only larger.
