Holidays in Spain: Learn All You Need To Know Before You Go

So you are going to spend your holidays in Spain.  Before you go, there are a number of things that you need to know.  Fortunately, most of these things are very basic.  Nevertheless, it is still important to make a note of them so that you do not forget something important.

Have Your Documents Ready

If you are a citizen of the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and the Liechtenstein, you will not be required to present a travel visa when holidaying in Spain. In lieu of the travel visa, residents from these countries are merely required to present their Identification card or valid passport. For children who are traveling with their parents, an identification card is also required.

However, for children who are traveling with family members other than their parents, a document showing parental authorization for the travel is required. This is very important in order to  make sure that your child will not get held up at  the airport and your nanny or other members of the family taken in for questioning.  So make sure that the person traveling with your child has the proper documents stating they are allowed to travel with your child.

Are Pets Allowed On Your Spain Holiday?

If you want to travel with a pet  to spend your holidays in Spain, you will need to comply with a series of health examinations required for pets entering the country.  The tests required for pets may vary depending on the country of origin of the pet. Note that there are some countries that are not very strict when it comes to vaccinations against rabies,  so if you come from a country where rabies vaccination is not strongly monitored by the government, your pet may be required to get a vaccine before it can enter Spain.

There is a requirement that pets be at least three months old in order to enter the country.  Pets that are less than three months old will not be allowed to enter the country.  Therefore, if your pet is less than three months old, it is better to leave it with a reliable caretaker at home. There is really no point of ruining your holiday in Spain by having your beloved pet impounded somewhere outside the borders of Spain.

What About Driving in Spain?

If you plan to do some driving during your holidays in Spain, you need to have the proper documents with you. For citizens of the countries mentioned about (the European Union, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein), all that is required is a  valid driver’s license issued by their country.  That  is enough for them to legally drive during their holiday in Spain.   For visitors coming from other countries, an international driver’s license is required.

Once you take note of the various rules and requirements mentioned above, you will be more than ready to enjoy your holidays in Spain.
