Colorado – Where Tourism and Sports Go Hand In Hand

Colorado is well known as a place to engage in winter sports, and it is also a popular location because of the great professional sports teams that are based in the state.  Add to that the rugged beauty of the state, and it is easy to understand why sport travel  is an essential part of Colorado tourism and why sports fans flock there year after year.

The Denver Broncos Football Team

The Denver Broncos have been a part of NFL Football in Denver since the 1960s.  They are a very popular team, and their home games are almost always sold out, forcing even the most persistent Broncos fans to watch the secondary market and pay a premium for their tickets.  As a tourist, if you are a fan of the Denver Broncos, then you can tour the Invesco Field, and the Broncos locker room if you happen to visit Colorado during the off season, or while the team is away.

Denver Nuggets Basketball

The Denver Nuggets have played professional basketball in Denver since 1967, when they were known as the Denver Rockets. The Nuggets have played in Pepsi Center since 1999. In Colorado, sports tourism is a way of life, and residents are accustomed to seeing visitors from out of state at Denver Nuggets basketball games and other sporting events.

The Colorado Rockies For Baseball Fans

In 1993, the Rockies became an established Major League Baseball expansion team, skyrocketing their popularity. The team is named after the Rocky Mountains, and their games are plated in the Coors Field in Denver.  Fans can tour the stadium and team locker room while the team is away, and during the off season.

Colorado Rapids Soccer

Colorado soccer tourism was born in 1995, when the Colorado Rapids were named as one of Major League Soccer's original ten franchises in the United States. Although the team originally played at Mile-High Stadium, the former home of the Denver Broncos, the Rapids now play at  Dicks Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.

Lacrosse Fans Like The Colorado Mammoths

The Colorado Mammoths are the state Lacrosse team, having moved to Colorado for the 2003 season - before then they were playing as the Baltimore Thunder, Pittsburgh Crossfire, and Washington Power.  The move to Colorado caused them to set league attendance records for the 2004 and 2006 season.

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Team

The Colorado Avalance Hockey Team were once known as the Nordiques.  They have been playing in Denver since 1995, and have played games at the Pepsi Center since 1999. Their mascot is the Howler.
