Guidelines For Planning The Ultimate Ski Vacation

You may think that a great ski vacation is just a fantasy for you – perhaps it is, if you dream of winning the Olympic gold medal and have never skied a day in your life.  But for most people, their ski vacation dreams have a good chance of becoming reality, even if you want to try out extreme skiing – it is something that anyone can do, with a little planning and preparation.

Is Extreme Skiing For You?

An extreme ski vacation can be a great vacation experience – especially for those who crave adventure and excitement.  Extreme skiing usually requires  some decent skiing abilitly, and you will be taken up a mountain in a helicopter, then ski down the mountainside.  You won't find yourself going to extreme altitude – as thin oxygen isn't exactly conducive to a good skiing experience, but you can still enjoy some great views, and get a massive adrenaline rush.

Some extreme ski vacation packages include not only the helicopter chair lift, but a sumptuous banquet at the bottom.  In New Zealand – the Garden of Eden of most extreme sports –  there have even been extreme ski vacation packages that included a trip to New Zealand, lodging, car hire, helicopter hire and five course dinner at the top of the mountain.  You can find ski vacations like these on the web or in specialist skiing magazines.  They are very expensive.  Less expensive packages use Snow Cats instead of helicopters.

Why Not Try Ski Diving

Ski diving is used by Olympic skiers as an alternative training method in the summer – it is a strange experience – you ski down a wooden slope into a large body of water.  If you want to see how it is done, head to the Lake Placid training center in New York.   The general public is not allowed to use the ski diving facility, but you can tour it, and learn a lot about how it is done.  You could also head to the lake to try some water skiing afterwards.

You could also try a combination of skydiving and skiing or snowboarding – this is not an official sport yet, but something that some people like to try out.  You won't be allowed to do it on your first jump, but if you are an experienced skydiver, why not ask? Just be sure your travel insurance covers you for it first!
