Experience The Old And The New In Arizona

Arizona tourism is becoming increasingly popular, and when you visit yourself, you will understand why.  Arizona has a wonderful synergy between the old and the new, giving a perfect mix between attractive history, and a more modern flavor.  Sedona is great example of this merging of old and new, and attracts tourists from all over the world.

The History of Sedona

Sedona is an ancient city, with a history going back almost 6000 years to a time when the Hopi Indians were settled in the area.  The more modern flavour comes from the white settlers which arrived in the city in 1902, creating the half-historical, half modern city that you see today.

Arizona became a popular tourist spot in the 1950s, attracting artists and writers who flocked to the location to enjoy the scenery, and the quaint atmosphere of the city.  Sedona is still a popular artistic retreat, and the tourist industry of Arizona is thriving today as people from all over the world come to soak up the atmosphere.

Sedona offers many attractions for its visitors – the Coffee Pot Rock Mountain, the Coconino National Forest, the Chapel of the Holy Cross are some of the must-see sites for tourists who visit here. Those who prefer activities to sight-seeing also have plenty to enjoy – there are tennis courts, excellent golf courses, hiking and trekking trails and so on. Though it sounds pretty immodest, the Arizona tourism has been able to successfully promote this industry and today there are more than 3 million visitors annually coming to visit the city of Sedona.

Vacationing In Arizona

There are lots of other popular historical attractions in Arizona – after visitng Sedona, you could head to the Shallow Caves, which date back to the 14th century, or, you could go to Montezuma Castle – a spectacular 5 story building constructed by the Sinagua Indians more than 600 years ago.  These places are a proud part of national heritage, and a reminder of the contrast of the different lifestyles and heritage that come together in the State.

Another place well worth visiting is the Canyon de Chelly, where you can see the ruins of the Native Americans who lived in the canyon between they years of 350 to 1300 AD.  If you are interested in the heritage of Native Americans, or just want to see a little history and some wonderful scenery, then Arizona is a wonderful place to visit.
