The Significance of Music in Hawaii
Flowers and music are some of the most culturally important things to the state of Hawaii, with Hawaiian music being a strong representation of the tradition and culture of Hawaii, and encompassing a variety of traditional and popular styles, from folk music to the more modern rock and hip hop styles.
This music is a major part of the state’s musical heritage, and the Hawaiian people have inhabited the islands for centuries and all throughout that time made sure to retain their traditional music knowledge. This explains why music festivals and venues are also so significant to the Hawaiian culture, and major music festivals in Hawaii include the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, Big Island Slack Key Guitar Festival, Steel Guitar Association Festival, and the Atta Isaacs Slack Key Festival.

It started in the early 1990s, when ethnic Hawaiians and other Hawaiian musicians started to play a mixture of reggae and local ethnic music. By the end of the decade it had come to dominate the Hawaiian music scene.
Hip Hop music in Hawaii can be traced back to its inception in the 1980s. There are some well known Hawaiian hip hop groups and MCs, including; Club Rox Rock, Rhythm & Rhyme, C.O.D., Skream Team, Aiga, Earth Movers, and Amphibieus Tungs.
