Denver Tourism: Lots of Opportunities for Side Trips

If you are planning a trip to the beautiful state of Colorado, then you should begin your vacation by flying in to Denver.  A guided tour of the city will get your holiday off to a spectacular start, introducing you to sights such as Larimer Square, the LoDo, the Molly Brown House, and the Four Mile Historic State Park, as well as the state capitol.  You can complete a tour of the city in half a day if you opt for a quick tour bus tour, and there are full day tours available too, for people who would prefer to spend more time at each sight.

Taking a Walking Tour

Many Denver tourism experts recommend taking a walking tour of Denver, with a visit to the Civic Center and the Greek Amphitheatre at the top of their list.  A stop off at the Colorado History Museum will give you a very interesting insight into the history of the area, and a visit to the Denver Art Museum will be interesting to both fans of architecture, and art.  The Art Museum building is considered to be an architectural wonder, and the museum contains more than 35,000 pieces of art, including some interesting American Indian, and Western, artwork.

Another popular Denver tourism destination is the United States Mint building which was built in an Italian Renaissance style and was constructed in 1904. Larimer Square is Denver's oldest commercial district and features restored late eighteen hundreds Victorian style buildings. Take some time to visit the D&F Tower which is considered to be a Denver landmark and was designed to resemble the campanile of St. Marks's Basilica located in Venice Italy.

The Brown Palace Hotel is another place that is well worth visiting.  It was built in 1892, and has a spectacular nine story atrium lobby with a stained glass ceiling.  The hotel has several restaurants, and it is worth sampling the food of at least one of them during your stay.  If you aren't hungry, then you could just have a refreshing cup of tea in the elegant hotel lobby before moving on to your next sightseeing spot.

Denver Side Trips

Some popular tour spots include the nearby mountain parks such as Red Rock, Bergen.  A visit to this park will usually include a stop at Buffalo Bill's grave on Lookout Mountain.  Some tours will also take you to the well known Coors Brewery.

If you are feeling adventurous, you could always take a guided cycling tour or hiking tour.  The scenery in Denver is quite spectacular, and there are trails to suit all levels of fitness.  One popular tour starts and ends in Vale, around 100 miles outside of Denver – the tour is quite long, but offers you the chance to goi rafting and hiking.  There are also some week long tours that go from Denver to Durango, taking you through some beautiful scenery, and providing a nice challenging route.
