South Dakota Department Of Tourism : Helping You Discover Great Places and Things

If you are like most people, you may tend to overlook South Dakota when making vacation plans.  The South Dakota department of tourism states clearly that the tourism industry in South Dakota is growing and shows no signs of stopping. So if you are thinking about taking a vacation soon,  consider South Dakota and its sights and attractions.

South Dakota Department of Tourism Showcases Fun Things to do in South Dakota

There are many exciting attractions in South Dakota for all ages. There is a palace made of corn, fairytale castles, and a tropical jungle. These attractions are great for families and small children. The South Dakota department of tourism  is also proud of the rich, beautiful outdoors. Hiking, biking, rock-climbing, and swimming are a just a few of the exciting activities you can participate in.  But that's not all.

The South Dakota department of tourism is proud of its parks. These include Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore National Memorial. These parks make for an educational and memorable vacation. Bicycling has become a popular pastime in South Dakota. They have fun mountain bike trails for the outdoor enthusiast and they have longer, serious road bike routes for the athlete in training. Some of the famous trails include George S. Mickelson Trail and the Sioux Falls Greenway.

Hunting In South Dakota

Another popular pastime in South Dakota  is hunting.  It's a year-round activity in South Dakota since they have a variety of hunt-able animals. Hunters have access to millions of acres of hunting land where deer, waterfowl, varmints, pheasant, and other small game live. Fishing is just as popular as hunting in South Dakota; fishermen have access to 1,100 square miles of fish-filled water, all year round.

Believe it or not, the South Dakota department of tourism also promotes golf vacations. With hundreds of courses throughout the state, any golfer can find that perfect course.

Unique  Places to Visit in South Dakota

South Dakota is most famous for its infamous mountain-side sculpture known as Mount Rushmore. This beautiful granite masterpiece was sculpted by Gutzon Borglum, his project began in 1927, took 14 years to finish, and cost about one million dollars. Millions of people every year come from all over to gaze upon this mountain-side masterpiece.

On the other hand, the Crazy Horse Memorial is also in South Dakota. This sculpture is a work-in-progress but when finished Chief Crazy Horse will stand 641 feet long and 563 feet high. Another fun place in South Dakota is its intricate cave system known as the Black Hills Caves. These systems of caves display some of the rarest and most intriguing formations of any cave system.

The tourism of South Dakota also offers a unique experience through scenic byways. This paved car paths take through wilderness and some of the most breathtaking scenery. These attractions and events are what has helped the South Dakota department of tourism to thrive and grow.
