I live in the UK, and there are some very inexpensive flights to Ireland with companies such as Ryanair - often you get the flights for free and just pay the airport tax. There are also a number of ferry operators, although I wouldn't recommend that unless it was summer, as our weather isn't the greatest :( If you are visiting the UK for any reason, then its worth a quick flight over to Ireland just to check the place out - theres a lot to see and a great culture to experience, with things for all interests and age groups.
