Jobs In Hawaii: The Opportunities Abound

Many people dream of living on a beautiful Hawaiian island – spending their days lounging on the beach, and the nights partying and enjoying luaus.  The reality, however, is that even people in Hawaii can't spend all day relaxing – they need to work too!  Many jobs in Hawaii, however, can be very appealing, especially considering the picturesque environment in which the job is located.  Jobs are available in many fields, with opportunities available for everything from manual labor to high tech engineering.  There  are lots of seasonal jobs in Hawaii too, with the tourist industry driving a lot of demand.

Many Diverse Job Opportunities

Many major industries provide Hawaii jobs for diverse opportunities. Sandalwood, sugarcane and pineapple, the military along with tourism and education make up a large percentage of the available Hawaii jobs in the market. Although one of the older occupations in the whaling industry still thrives, it is nearly faded away in favor of many other more profitable industries.

Tourism accounts for around 24% of Hawaii's gross state product income, and there are tourism related jobs available all year round.  Many of those jobs are filled by students from the University of Hawaii, but as students graduate and move on to jobs in their chosen field, the jobs re-open, offering others the opportunity to apply.

If you are applying for a job in Hawaii, be sure to compare the cost of living in the area with the wages from the job, as in some fields the wages can be very low.

Seasonal Jobs and Special Events

There are a few major international events that create a large need for workers during certain times of the year.  Around Labor Day, for example, the Aloha festival is a big event, and creates a need for workers on almost all of the islands.  Another event creating a demand for temporary workers is the annual Pro Bowl Football game, which comes to Hawaii late in the winter.

There are several professional golf tournaments held throughout the year, which create a demand for temporary workers.  There are also lots of jobs available at the military bases around the islands.  The Air Force and Navy offer civilian job opportunities.

The warm weather in Hawaii draws many people in, and they are not deterred by the hurricanes and other weather related hazards that the islands suffer from.  If you are determined to move to Hawaii there are lots of opportunities available for a wide range of skill sets.  Interviewing time may be at a premium, but if you are eager to find a job in Hawaii it is possible if you look in the right places and pick the right times to go job hunting.
