Family vacation time is the best time of the year.  Here are some tips for planning your family vacation on a budget.

Title: Family Vacations On A Budget

Author: Sam Micheals

A family vacation is an exciting event that can help you release
the stress of the entire year. You can spend time relaxing as
well as spend quality time with your family. Your children will
love the adventure and will have memories that they will never
forget. A can be expensive however. Instead of
skipping out on a family vacation altogether because of the
price, you might want to just consider using these tips to make
the trip affordable.

The first thing you will want to do is pre-plan. The best trips
are those that you know won't cost you more than you bring. Look
for hotel discounts when you book early. Try traveling right
before or right after the peak seasons. The weather will still
be great and the prices will be much lower than in the peak
seasons. Another thing you can consider is your food costs. Many
family hotels will offer plans that allow your children to eat
free. If you have quite a large family, this can save you a
bundle. Choose a hotel with several restaurants to choose from
and you will always stay full and within your budget.

If you can't find the room in your budget for a hotel room,
consider taking the kids camping for a week. This can be a
wonderful way to spend time in nature and with each other.
Camping can be a blast for children. Teens don't usually like it
as much, but you and your family will build memories for a
lifetime.

As you can see, a family vacation can fall within your budget if
you plan ahead. It is when you jump in the car without a plan
that things tend to get expensive. Planning will save you
thousands of dollars and allow you to have the best time
possible on your budget.

Nice suggestions. I am a budget traveller, and I use some of those tips quite a lot.  I tend to decide a long time in advance where I want to go and roughly when, then just have a degree of flexibility and check prices frequently. If you involve your children in the booking of the holiday over that period of months it can help build excitement. Also, don't forget that some countries have different hotel standards - I've stayed in some really nice three star hotels that cost very little and that would have been rated a lot higher had they been in the UK.  Read reviews of the hotels before you dismiss them, you may find a bargain.

I always thought it was fun to try and save money on meals while road travelling  TO the destination.  Weather permitting, you can stop and buy some good old fashioned beef franks, sun chips and bread at a market somewhere along the road of your trip and enjoy a small cookout at one of the free parks that are spread all across the USA.   Not in the mood for a quick cookout, no problem.  Get some wheat bread and tuna salad and enjoy a healty lunch at one of the rest areas.  You can save a bundle on dining costs with a little planning on your pit stops. Plus, you can enjoy the scenery and stretch your legs away from the normal sitdown restaurant meals and get a little fresh air.  Take some pictures of the family and be on your way.

I like to travel a lot and I have a very tight budget.  You give some nice tips there!  I have found that being flexible is a big help in terms of saving a lot of money - decide roughly when you want to go and keep an eye on sales and good budget deals to find the best savings. I usually scrimp on the travel and then try to find a nice hotel - reading reviews and scrutinising your hotels carefully can often find you a relatively inexpensive one that feels a lot nicer than its star rating would have you expect.
